Music and Lyrics

Was a nice movie. Perfect 'popcorn fare'. What I notice though is that the recent spate of bollywood music is strictly passable and most lyrics so-so. Of course I am not considering the crass junk that is churned out regularly by the industry'wallahs'. Old lyricists and musicians win hands down on emotional content and arrangements that are often simple and yet maintain a melodic quality. Maybe that is a reason why they stay evergreen and enable people to hum the tunes and sing along. While listening to an oldie goldie recently, I was quite nonplussed by the lyrics. "bekhudi mein sanaam... jo uthaye kadam... aa gaye paas hum"...
Strangely it is quite similar in tenor and substance to pink floyd's One Slip which goes
"...then drowned in desire. Our souls on fire
I led the way to the funeral pyre
and without a thought i gave in to my decadence..."
"... a momentary lapse of reason
that binds life for life"
And to think this was was sung during the staid times where even lip-locks were hidden behind a visual of two flowers! I guess that is the reason why so much angst/love/passion/other over riding emotion had to be conveyed through the music and lyrics.
